Layton Centenary Walk 3 September 2011 |
Wednesday, 10 August 2011 |
The Centenary Walk will be led by Janet McNamara, a trustee of the Thomas Layton Trust and Hounslow Heritage Guide. Her route will enable participants to explore the Brentford Thomas Layton knew, as a local resident, businessman and politician, and will take about one and a half hours to complete. Meet at 4.15pm at Brentford Library, Boston Manor Road TW8 8DW. The walk will end at Kew Bridge, near the Express Hotel and the riverside pubs of Strand on the Green. Layton died at his home just upstream of the bridge on 4 September 1911. By his will he left his house and his substantial collection of books and historic objects to create a museum for the people of Brentford. Alas, he also left the house to his nephew and as a result the museum was never created there. The house is long since gone, and a major redevelopment of the site is in progress.
